Bas-Mono: Training young people and parents for an enlightened future in terms of sexual health

As part of its commitment to promoting the sexual and reproductive health of young people, ATBEF, with the technical and financial support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has launched an ambitious initiative in the Bas-Mono prefecture. From June 2 to 14, the Hôtel Chic Millenium in Afagnan is hosting values and sexual health education sessions for 100 out-of-school adolescents and 50 parents or guardians.
The aim of these sessions is to equip participants with essential skills in sexual and reproductive health, healthy relationships, gender equality, mutual respect and human rights. By building the capacity of these young people and their tutors, the initiative aims to create real behavioral change within local communities.
On completion of their training, the beneficiaries will be called upon to act as community relays, disseminating reliable information on sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR). By becoming agents of change in their respective communities, they will help to remove taboos and improve young people's access to comprehensive sex education and appropriate, quality health services.
Faced with the multiple challenges facing adolescents - misinformation, early pregnancies, gender-based violence, lack of access to appropriate health services - this action is an innovative, inclusive and sustainable response. It marks a significant step towards empowering young people and strengthening intergenerational dialogue on the sensitive but essential issues of sexual and reproductive health.
